For Libraries & Camps / Aligns with SUMMER 2019 CSLP THEME
A UNIVERSE OF STORIES:
Drawing Comics @ Light Speed Through Space & Time!
Join NH teaching artist Marek Bennett’s COMICS WORKSHOP on a quest throughout the known universe and beyond… A quest for amazing comics that ONLY YOU CAN DRAW! Using blank paper, pencils, ink, and four basic “storytelling elements”, we’ll explore other worlds and times, create eye-catching (& readable) pages of original artwork, and learn how artists & authors use peer feedback to improve their work and get it out to new readers.
2019 marks the 25th anniversary of Marek’s very first daily newspaper comic strip, the space adventure series “Quasar Blasters” (Brown Daily Herald, 1994-1997), as well as the release of his new Civil War graphic novel, The Civil War Diary of Freeman Colby, Vol. 2. Marek will share his work from both series, as well as his experiences from a quarter-century drawing comics at the farthest reaches of space & time …
Marek’s popular interactive COMICS WORKSHOPS build literacy skills, hone powers of imagination, model complex project organization and self-publishing techniques, and help artists of all ages collaborate, appreciate, and support the work of their peers. Participants each create 1+ pages of original comics, and go home with the skills necessary to continue creating comics all Summer long. No experience required – everyone can draw comics!
