2021 SUMMER READING PROGRAM (Aligns with CSLP themes)

PROGRAM DECRIPTION:

Join NH cartoonist Marek Bennett’s COMICS WORKSHOP on a quest to create wild new comics that ONLY YOU can draw…

Using blank paper, pencils, ink, and four basic “storytelling elements,” we’ll design original animal cartoon characters with their own personalities, powers, & points of view — Then we’ll learn how to create mini-comics featuring their stories!

We’ll also look at how artists and authors use peer feedback to improve their work and share their stories with new readers. Marek will share his own tips and tricks from years of creating graphic novels, including his series of real-life (cartoon animal) travel adventures, including Slovakia & Sharjah Sketchbook!

ABOUT THE FORMAT:

This program focuses on active group drawing time, with participants each creating 1+ pages of original comics under Marek’s guidance. The event may also include the creation of an online gallery of student artwork and/or printable materials featuring student-designed characters.

Marek’s popular interactive COMICS WORKSHOPS build literacy skills, hone powers of imagination, model complex project organization and self-publishing techniques, and help artists of all ages collaborate, appreciate, & support the work of their peers. COMICS WORKSHOP aims to give you the skills necessary to continue creating comics independently all summer long!
