JUMP TO: DAY 1 | DAY 2 | DAY 3 | DAY 4

DAY 1:

The P*I.E. PROCESS:

3-PANEL PAGES: Start your story with a SETTING-ACTION-RESULT sequence:

SPACING BETWEEN PANELS: Double your panel borders to give your readers some imagination space:

BLOB CHARACTERS: Keep your blob pages onhand for ideas, & to practice inking:

DAY 2:

TODAY: Conferencing about our pages in progress!

EDITING ADVICE:

Notice what makes our text READABLE (or not readable!):

READING ORDER: Which panel “reads” more clearly?:

Marek’s Pages in Progress:

I like how this “Splash Page” is turning out…:

DAY 3:

EDITING & INKING & ERASING:

DAY 4:

MAKING MINI-COMICS:

Here are two formats for self-publishing hand-made “mini-comics” booklets — Click for instructions & videos:

Quarterfold Minis (8-40 pages)

We’re planning to use this format for our class books.

1-Sheet Minis (8 pages, no stapling)

These are great for stand-alone pocket-size mini-stories!

DEMO: Scanning & Digital Processing:

SAMPLE PAGE: Once we have a finished (P*I.E.) page, we can scan it & clean it up for printing:

“Raw” Scan (600dpi grayscale):

Cleaned up high-contrast (B&W) version:
