Join award-winning cartoonist Marek Bennett for a behind-the-scenes look at comics & graphic novels drawn from historical primary sources.
- Why (& how) do artists draw stories from historical materials?
- What happens when we create new comics from primary sources?
- How do comics weave sources together, to deepen our understanding of the past & present?
This talk demonstrates basic techniques of historical cartooning, & explores the roles of research & imagination in the creative process. It may even inspire you to create your own historical comics from local history!
