Here’s a quick comics-making activity to help dig into (& understand) constitutional text:
SOURCE TEXT: Bill of Rights (1791)
The first 10 amendments to the Constitution establish fundamental rights of citizens, & dramatically limit the government’s powers. (It’s especially fun to cartoon Supreme Court cases that “wrangle” with these rights.)

Here’s what this process might look like, using the text of the First Amendment:
(2) = Reading & marking up the source text:
(3)+(4) = Drawing panels & adding source text.
(5) = Adding graphics.
Remember, CARTOONING means drawing as little as possible (to get the maximum impact)!
COMPARING DRAFTS: Here are 2 drafts, drawn from the same amendment. Which one best communicates the source text to you?
